DIY Wax Seal

Posted by websitesarelovely on Friday, 22 March 2013

I have been designing the wedding stationery for a some friends of mine, to accompany the 'Save the date' cards I designed last year. I had the cards letterpressed by the fantastic blush publishing, and I had the idea of using the polymer plate to create a wax seal for the envelopes, which blush kindly supplied to me.

I cut out the cathedral illustration from the plate and mounted it on to a 35mm film canister and attempted my first impression with the wax. The polymer held well with the hot wax, but I couldn't get a clean print - whether it was due to leaving it too long in the wax, or not long enough - but as an experiment it was interesting to get some results. I have got a feeling that the polymer was too adhesive to the wax, and using a metal plate would work better, as they could be heated to remove all residue and to lift a cleaner print. I'd really like to get some metal seals made and experiment further for my own brand in the near future, as when it works, it's a great addition to printed stationery.

Save the Date invitation

Posted by websitesarelovely on Tuesday, 27 November 2012

A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked me to design a 'Save the Date' invitation for her wedding next year, which gave me the opportunity to work with the fantastic blush publishing again, to produce a 2 colour letterpress print.

They also did a 'Live Letterpress' on Instagram and Twitter showing the full process from plates to press.

Victorian LOST

Posted by websitesarelovely on Monday, 1 October 2012

I was (and still am) a huge LOST fan, and I really missed it when it finally ended* I started this series, hoping to complete a photographer's card for each major cast member - which I might still do, but here are the first 6 in the series. I hope you like them.

*In my opinion the ending wasn't disappointing, as the journey had been so compelling - I don't think there was a way for it to end keeping all the fans happy. I would have loved to know more about the mythology and the mysteries, but I enjoyed the ride.

You've Got Red On You - Shaun of the Dead print

Posted by websitesarelovely on Tuesday, 6 March 2012

I had an idea for a Shaun of the Dead poster a few months ago, to celebrate The Cornetto Trilogy, and last week I got to bring it to life at my screenprinting class. The design uses Shaun's cricket bat as a Flake 99 in the Cornetto, with one of the best bits of dialogue from the film 'You've got red on you' in the background. The screenprinted finish brings an extra element to the print, with imperfect colour and 'bleed', that fits well with film.

I'd love to to get these endorsed by Mr Wright, and if he wants to use them for any screenings or events, then please get in contact, and I can get them printed.

Sneaky look at Wednesday's screenprint

Posted by websitesarelovely on Monday, 20 February 2012

A sneaky look at my design for Wednesday's screenprinting class. Can you guess what it is?
It's going to be my first 2-colour print, so I am going to get some off-white paper to bring in another colour and make it a bit more muted.
